1st Grade: Mouse Paint

Primary and Secondary Color Mice

Mr. Giannetto read the book Mouse Paint to each first grade class. The book tells the story of three mice who jump and dance in jars of paint and in the process learn a lot about mixing colors. While combining art and literacy, this lesson also was a great way to review the primary and secondary colors. First, each student drew three mice and painted them using primary or secondary colors. After they dried, they were cut out and glued to white paper. Next, details were added to each mouse using markers. Finally, a cat was created and glued to the top of the page. The cat is meant to be peeking over the paper and ready to chase the mice.
