Holiday 2016

Happy Holidays from the Art Room at Young School!
We've been very busy creating Kindergarten Snowman ornaments!

I love these Small Group K Holiday trees! First, we used paper tubes to stamp the circles in the background. Next, we cut out a large triangle and added folded strips of paper. It's great to see all of the texture and volume in this project.

We traced our shoes to create these fun Kindergarten reindeer! This project focused on sponge painting as well as cutting skills and gluing skills

We used a Qtip to add snow.

K Leaf Birds

Kindergarten Fall Challenge: Turn a leaf into a bird!

We had a great time connecting ART with NATURE!

First, we glued a feather and a beak to the leaf to create a bird.

Next, we glued various rectangles to create branches.

Finally, we used a piece of cardboard as a stamp to create pine needles.
We also used a Q-tip to paint bark on our branches.

These are very playful and unique!

Some birds are sitting peacefully on a branch while others are flying by.

Turkeys

Terrific Turkeys!

Small Group PreK had a blast creating a fun Thanksgiving project.

We were gluing a variety of precut shapes while also counting the number of feathers, legs, and leaves in the project.

I'm planning to have a couple Kindergarten classes complete the project this cycle as well. The K students will draw and cut out most of the shapes themselves.

Clay Owls

1st Grade Clay Owls

We loved creating clay owls using Crayola Model Magic!

First, we made a ball out of clay and flattened it.

Next, we pulled down the top to form the head and curled in the sides to create the wings.

Finally, we added details such as a beak and claws.

We let the clay dry for one week and then started the painting portion of the lesson.

We painted the owl using tempera paint and then created a place for him to live.
We painted a piece of wood black and added a twig from nature.

Lastly, we created a moon to show that the owl is nocturnal.

The collage highlights many painting techniques such as painting with paper tubes, Q tips, and sponges! I love the movement and textures in each project!

First, we drew 3 pumpkins, painted them ,and cut them out.

Next, we added details such as stems, grass, and a leaf.

Finally, we created a moon to put in the sky.

We're so proud of our work!
